Midwesterners

funny how we end up in nearly identical places.
yes, different labs and different faces,
but the small distance is surmountable.

sometimes i wonder if we could cross paths.
what business do i have down there?
we never were anything,
so i’d need business,
because i have no ties
other than you.

will you always be a lone wolf?
the mysterious alaskan wilderness man
quietly grabbing life by the horns?
you could complete anyone,
but could anyone complement you?

sometimes i wonder if you want to be alone.
even my foolhardy heart knows
mine is not the company you seek—
(if you even seek some at all)—
but i may forever be a not-so-secret admirer,
and i will always hope that you are happy.
