To Know You

Written July 28, 2010

should not love be,
willingly given?

what worth is a petty vie
for a fine man’s eye?

I am not quite so vapid.
you are not a trophy,
for my ego.

our addition
is a subtraction;
a distraction,
a detraction
from my true
colors.

catch me on my own.

I am not
like her.

I have to offer
an interest
in eternity.

my loyalty
is of an intensity
perhaps oft unseen
in my careless,
senseless
peers.

you are not
a game I wish to play,
a body to call a triumph.

you are someone
I’d like to know.
