Turn Your Head

Written January 23, 2010

Truth: A contradiction.
Walking, talking, breathing—
just like you.
Not like you.
Living, loving, laughing—
all for you.
Now look the other way.

Turn your head
from my bloodshot eyes.
Turn your head
from my salted cheeks.
Turn your head
from what I’ve failed to obscure.

I can’t justify for you
anything I’ve done,
anything I’ve felt.

So I carry a shield,
and purposely forget,
to avoid your judgment.

Turn your head,
because I can’t handle
the attention.
