In Recognition

elusive, feared, and oddly sepulchral:
we were fascinated by you.
(or at least i was.)
your secret headquarters of shiny oak
was twice mine to see.
who knew i’d feel so privileged?
who knew i’d be so privileged?
you saw my mind among the masses.
i became significant.
no award could please me more greatly
than your Recognition.
I, alone, was Somebody.
you became somebody to me, too.
a human: feeling, caring, and solidly being.
You were supposed to be there
for my triumphant return.
You and I:
Somebodies.
