Gold
Written January 9, 2010
Quickly, quickly,
I realized life required
more than merely nature.
Not all my talents
(if you want to call them that),
are purely inherent.
I know, because,
someone held me accountable
for failing to fulfill
my potential.
I was not arrogant enough
to dismiss his criticism.
I, indeed, am fallible.
He knew I could be better.
I wanted to confirm his convictions.
I like to think I did,
for I know,
the number one golden rule,
above all else,
is not to settle
for less than my best.
And I want to prove,
that I haven’t forgotten.
