No Surprises

My dear, it’s all right to laugh—
‘cause it’s a little funny that I,
I feel this beautiful bond between us
when the electrons aren’t even there.

(Or maybe I just don’t have enough to give you,
and you’re not dumb enough to be a boron
to a fluorine who feels love too easily.)

You asked why.
As if, what could I possibly see in you?

“Everything” would not be an overstatement.

So I reached out,
hoping you’d like to give me a chance,
despite the activation barrier.

There’s no catalyst to make it easier;
we just have to want it—
and I’m not surprised,
that you don’t.
