Work
Written March 9, 2010
You don’t want
everything handed to you,
unless you don’t mind realizing
you’ve
earned
nothing.
I’m not proud,
and I don’t ask for it.
But no one believes me
when I say
I don’t deserve it.
It’s not my fault.
Maybe I don’t wish
that they would stop,
but all the words I’ve said
about wanting to reflect
the image I’m perceived to be,
I never meant before now.
I’m trying.
Sometimes
I just want to be like everyone else,
and fail because I haven’t.
And succeed
because I have.
