Know Me

Written March 15, 2011

perception versus conception:
have I projected something to see
that allows but one construction
of my identity?

even those I’ve blatantly refuted—
views me the same.

it hurts,
and I’m tired.

I’d love to say,
Screw everyone else,
but, my dear,
I’m afraid.

so there’s a misconception of you, too,
and perhaps it sucks more
to be unapproachable,
and arrogant.

I never saw you that way—
find it hard to believe, actually.

That’s because you know me.

 and I’m glad I do.
I’m glad you’ve let me.

and I’m glad
you’re not disappointed
that I’m not who you thought.
