Masquerade

Surrounded by friends, she is isolated
Expecting answers, for so long she has waited
Because of the smile, they continue to overlook
They think she’s satisfied with her nose in that book
They glance at her and call her the smart one
As she grins and laughs, pretending to have fun
She has played this game for far too long
And has carried and identity she knows is wrong
All these false things, to her they’ve come true
Because there’s nothing else she knows how to do
