Memorial Day 2004

I write this as an American child
One whose emotions may rage wild
But knows we will only be here a while
And has just left her stage of denial

I just watched 60 Minutes on CBS
And saw that our country is 800 less
We were afraid when they went to Iraq lest
These brave men and women would all meet their deaths

On this Memorial Day, we have our memories
Of our fallen troops who appear in our reveries
Who we’ll specially remember every
Last Monday in May for an eternity

I thank our troops who gave their life in Iraq
We know courage is not something you did lack
Our soldiers were saints for how they chose to act
They died to protect us but won’t ever come back
